Gary Sheffield leads Tigers past Orioles
AP - Gary Sheffield didn’t get upset when Daniel Cabrera hit him with a pitch. When Cabrera started yelling at Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland, though, Sheffield got angry. Sheffield homered off Cabrera moments after the pair had to be pulled apart, leading the Tigers to an 8-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.
Rockets return home, beat Jazz 96-92
Tracy McGrady was hitting shots and giving out assists at a record pace. Yao Ming was grabbing rebounds and dominating inside. SALT LAKE CITY (AP)– The Colorado Rapids spoiled Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Chris Seitz’s Major League Soccer debut with a 2-0 victory on Monday night. Forward Roberto Brown opened the scoring in the 71st minute, beating his defender and then Seitz from 12 yards out. It was Brown’s second goal of the year.
Cavs top Wizards for first playoff sweep
A year ago, winning a playoff series by any means was cause for major celebration by the Cleveland Cavaliers. This year’s sweep of the Washington Wizards? That’s simply what the Cavaliers were supposed to do. Cleveland swept a series for the first time in franchise history, finishing the job Monday night with yet another uneven performance in a 97-90 victory.
Cardinals lose teammate, try to move on
AP - A day after the death of Josh Hancock, the St. Louis Cardinals tried to move on. They had a game to play. But for Scott Spiezio, it was too much to handle. He was overcome with emotion just before the first pitch when he saw Hancock’s jersey and the black No. 32 patch the team would be wearing Monday night, and manager Tony La Russa pulled him from the starting lineup.
Emery outduels Brodeur as Senators win
AP - Ray Emery held off the Devils until his Ottawa Senators teammates could find a way to score on Martin Brodeur. Emery stopped 25 shots for his second playoff shutout and Tom Preissing scored 4:46 into the third period, leading Ottawa to a 2-0 win over the New Jersey Devils in Game 3 of their playoff series Monday night.
