76ers can’t sign extension with Iguodala

The Philadelphia 76ers and Iguodala failed to reach a contract extension by the Oct. 31 deadline that could have extended the rising star up to five more seasons after this one. Now, Iguodala and the Sixers must wait until July 1 to reopen negotiations, at which point Philadelphia will hold a right of first refusal on any offer from another team.

Give him time. Don’t rush him. That was the message Carmelo Anthony had for anyone who expected immediate greatness out of Seattle rookie Kevin Durant. Durant’s shot was off in his NBA debut, and the Denver Nuggets beat the SuperSonics 120-103 on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams. Durant scored 18 points in just over 31 minutes, but shot just 7-of-22.

Andre Iguodala, who helped the Philadelphia 76ers reach the playoffs for the first time in three years, was rewarded Monday with the official announcement of a six-year contract worth a reported $80 million. “We felt like he had a very good track record to warrant a contract like that,” Sixers president Ed Stefanski said.
