Hawks cruise past Grizzlies 116-99

The Atlanta Hawks couldn’t coast home against the Memphis Grizzlies despite holding a 38-point lead in the third quarter. The Hawks had to refire their offense in the fourth quarter Monday night to turn back a late Memphis rally and defeat the Grizzlies 116-99. Josh Smith had 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists to lead the Hawks, who had six players in double figures.

Jazz make record 15 3s in easy win

C.J. Miles was the only Utah starter still playing at the end of a blowout against the Washington Wizards. With the game Miles was having, coach Jerry Sloan would have had a hard time getting him out of there, anyway. Miles scored a career high 29 points, making four 3-pointers as the Jazz set a record from beyond-the-arc in a 129-87 win over the weary Wizards on Monday night.



Tulsa beats Bradley in CBI title series

Jerome Jordan scored 18 points, including two clinching free throws, to help lead Tulsa to a 73-68 victory over Bradley in the first game of a best-of-three series in the College Basketball Invitational finals on Monday. Jordan, who also had 13 rebounds and four blocks, ignited a 13-3 run by slamming home a lob from Ben Uzoh to give the Golden Hurricane (24-13) a 49-48 lead.

In a season worth forgetting for the Atlanta Thrashers, Ilya Kovalchuk has been as good as ever. The All-Star scored two third-period goals, Kari Lehtonen stopped 36 shots, and Atlanta defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0 on Monday night. Kovalchuk tied his career-high in goals with 52, matching his total for the 2005-06 season.

Kentucky manager Keightley dead at 81

The University of Kentucky says Bill Keightley, who was the school's basketball equipment manager and was with the university for 48 seasons, has died Monday March 31, 2008. He was 81.

Kentucky basketball manager Bill Keightley, who was with the Wildcats for 48 seasons, died Monday in Cincinnati. He was 81. Keightley died of internal bleeding caused by a previously undiagnosed tumor on his spine, the university said in a statement. He was on a trip to see the Reds’ season-opener and suffered a fall, Kentucky spokesman Scott Stricklin told The Associated Press.



Raiders sign free agent C Wade

The Oakland Raiders signed free agent center John Wade on Monday to fill a potential hole on their offensive line. Wade has started 106 of his 126 career games since entering the NFL in 1998 as a fifth-round draft choice by Jacksonville. Wade started every game the past three seasons for Tampa Bay. Jeremy Newberry started at center last season for Oakland but is a free agent and remains unsigned.
