Young Warriors keep on stumbling

Don Nelson knows his bosses would probably prefer if he stayed a little more upbeat. Not to the extent that the veteran coach would gush about the Golden State Warriors’ playoff chances, yet certainly more optimistic than already ruling them out of the mix in early December — a mere 18 games into the NBA schedule.

Heat rally for wild OT win over Warriors

The Golden State Warriors keep finding new ways to lose. Missed defensive rebounds. Blown inbounds plays. Poor decisions on offense. All of those things did in sinking Golden State in its latest mishap. Chris Quinn hit a tying 3-pointer with 7.1 seconds left in overtime, Michael Beasley stole the ensuing inbounds pass and made the decisive free throw, and the Miami Heat pulled off a wild 130-129…

Richardson’s 25 lead Bobcats past Wolves

The point guard was nearly mistake-free. The big man was finally getting the ball — and converting. The shooter looked as good as ever following arthroscopic surgery. It took a while, but the Charlotte Bobcats finally appear to understand coach Larry Brown’s complex offense. Jason Richardson scored 25 points in another strong performance after being sidelined with knee trouble, leading the suddenly…

Celtics win ninth straight, beat Magic

Everything was working so well for Paul Pierce that his teammates just kept getting him the ball. Pierce scored 17 of his 24 points in the third quarter to lead the Boston Celtics to their ninth straight win, 107-88 over the Orlando Magic on Monday night. “We were just taking advantage of the matchups,” Pierce said.

Ex-NBA player Rodney Rogers hospitalized

Former NBA standout Rodney Rogers was hospitalized after getting injured while riding an all-terrain vehicle. The North Carolina Highway Patrol said Monday that Rogers was four-wheeling in the woods in rural Vance County north of Raleigh on Saturday when he fell off the vehicle. A patrol spokesman said Rogers was taken by helicopter to Duke University Hospital in Durham.

Lakers improve to 14-1, beat Raptors

Kobe Bryant spent the fourth quarter on the Los Angeles Lakers’ bench, content in watching the second unit blow the game open. The last thing on his mind was Wilt Chamberlain. This kind of trend — and attitude — has the defending Western Conference champions off to an NBA-best 14-1 record. Pau Gasol had 24 points and nine rebounds, Bryant had 23 points and a season-high seven assists, and the…

Harris’ 47 help Nets end skid in Phoenix

Devin Harris was on the attack and the Phoenix Suns had no defense for him. Harris scored a career-high 47 points, including 21 in the fourth quarter, and the New Jersey Nets ended their 14-game losing streak at Phoenix by rallying to beat the Suns 117-109 Sunday night. The Nets had not won at US Airways Center since their first visit in 1993, but they used a late run to overcome the Suns.

Anthony scores 2 points but Nuggets win

Carmelo Anthony’s right elbow was so sore, he couldn’t shoot, pass or dribble. Heck, he couldn’t even lift his toddler son, Kiyan, after the game. Good thing the Denver Nuggets have Chauncey Billups on their side now. Making up for Anthony’s absence — along with ‘Melo’s usual double-digit performance — Billups had 28 points and 10 assists to lead the Nuggets past Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets,…

Bulls top 76ers to end road trip 3-4

Derrick Rose seems unfazed by the rigorous NBA schedule. In the final stop on a seven-game, 12-day road trip which began Nov. 18 in Los Angeles against the Lakers, the 20-year-old No. 1 overall pick in the draft still had plenty of energy. Ben Gordon scored 21 points, Drew Gooden had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and the Chicago Bulls rallied from an early deficit for a 103-92 victory over the…

Blazers win fourth straight, top Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are starting to look like the Detroit Lions — they’re always a wreck on Sunday. For the fourth Sunday in a row, the Pistons played like their hapless NFL counterparts, losing 96-85 to the Portland Trail Blazers. “Other than asking the league not to schedule us for any more Sundays, there’s nothing I can do about this,” Pistons coach Michael Curry said.
