Connecticut forward Gavin Edwards is expected to lose some minutes when former starter Stanley Robinson returns later this month after missing a semester for personal reasons. Edwards made his pitch Monday night to not be forgotten, scoring a career-high 17 points and leading the No. 2 Huskies over Delaware State 79-49.

Trevon Hughes hit a leaning floater in the lane with 0.9 seconds left and Wisconsin survived a furious rally by Virginia Tech on Monday night, winning 74-72 in the opener of the 10th Annual ACC-Big Ten Challenge. When Paul Harris came out for warmups prior to Monday night’s game against Colgate, his Syracuse teammates and the Carrier Dome crowd did a double-take. Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood said he has at least a dozen candidates to succeed Lute Olson. That number figures to change by next spring, when the Wildcats will likely name a permanent coach to replace Olson. “It’s a fairly large pool right now,” said Livengood, who won’t identify candidates.

Villanova center Casiem Drummond told the coaching staff on Monday that he will leave the Big East school and transfer. The 6-foot-10 junior played in two games for the No. 17 Wildcats (6-0) and averaged 2.0 points and 2.5 rebounds. He started nine times in 42 career games at Villanova and missed most of last season with ankle injuries.

L.D. Williams and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons pushed aside upset-minded Baylor with a complete 40-minute effort. Harden scored a tournament-record and career-high 40 points to lead Arizona State’s 88-58 rout of Texas El Paso in the third-place game of the 76 Classic on Sunday night.
